PORTSMOUTH SCOUT MOUNTAINEERING TEAM

Introduction

PSMT (Portsmouth Scout Mountaineering Team) was started in September 2002 when Venture Scouting ceased. It was started with the aim of providing experienced Leaders to take members of the Scout movement climbing and to provide training for anyone who had the wish to gain their "Walls and Towers" qualification.

We started with a couple of Leaders who had enjoyed climbing with us when we ran Venture Scouts. We now have 7 qualified leaders who as well as looking after their own sections come and provide climbing for others. Either at City events or at section level.

These leaders enjoy a reduced rate for climbing with their own section as a thank you for giving up their precious spare time to run climbing for others.

In addition to climbing, we also offer Hill and Mountain Walking. Martin Mackey is a qualified Mountain Leader and holds an Adventurous Activity Permit Hill Walking Terrain 2 (Summer). If you are interested in using his skills or have any questions about hill or mountain walking, please contact ps.admin@ntlworld.com

Portsmouth Scout Mountaineering Team Charges from 1st September 2007

The charges below are based on one session of 3 hours maximum on a climbing wall/tower.

If PSMT equipment is used for a City Of Portsmouth organised event then it has been agreed with the City Commissioner that an agreed donation would be acceptable rather than a charge.

Please note the following: Scout Association Rules state 1 instructor per 6 people, so please bear this in mind when booking.

  • The above charges do not cover the cost of the climbing tower.

  • If PSMT are required for a large event i.e. District Event/Joint event with Guides, then please contact PSMT for a price.

  • If climbing with Guides then an Instructor with either SPA or Guiding qualification is required.

  • PSMT Members should note that it is up to you if you want to charge your Group for your expenses.
