PORTSMOUTH SCOUT SHOOTING TEAM

Introduction

The Portsmouth Scout Shooting Team (PSST) was started in January 2010 with the aim of providing qualified Leaders to give members of the Scout movement, within the City of Portsmouth, the opportunity to take part in Air Rifle shooting. PSST provide both 'taster sessions' and courses for the Master at Arms badge.

The team started with a couple of Leaders who had enjoyed Shooting and they are always looking for more qualified leaders who, as well as looking after their own sections, are willing to help provide shooting for others.

Courses

In addition to taster sessions and Master at Arms badge courses PSST can run the National Smallbore Rifle Association Youth Proficiency Scheme, which is an eight lesson course in Air Rifle shooting.

The main objective of the NSRA Youth Proficiency Scheme is to ensure the safe and responsible handling of air rifles by young people and to introduce them to a sport where neither strength, stature, age nor sex offer advantage or disadvantage. The course is designed to ensure that the student understands the precepts of safety and learns the skills necessary to enjoy the sport.

The course concludes with a short academic test, followed by a simple assessment of shooting and there is a graded system of awards and a certificate of attendance for successful participants.
